At Toolhouse, designers take a leading role in crafting compelling creative around our clients’ products and the markets they serve. This role requires expertise in visual design, prototyping, user experience and user interface design as well as a solid understanding of the client-side technologies that transform our ideas into experiences.

Our work includes websites, web applications, mobile applications, email marketing, online articles, social posts, streaming videos, and animation. We strive to establish smart, creative approaches for each assignment.

Being successful in this role requires working collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams alongside strategists, account directors, project managers, copywriters, other designers, and developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create visual designs & assets, that effectively support product benefits, functionality, and brand identity. This may include wireframing, design and production of screen layouts, color palettes, typography, user interface elements, photography retouching, infographics, and iconography.
  • Evangelize and support holistic user-centered design approaches (requires understanding of user-centered design methodologies and principles).
  • Be able to communicate conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale, both verbally and visually to the project teams, as well as support presenting creative solutions with client when needed.
  • Comfortable working within, and building upon, established creative standards for design systems, patterns, and components, including design specifications, storyboards, scenarios, and prototypes etc.
  • Recommends appropriate uses of motion graphics or micro animations. 
  • Work closely with lead-designers and engineers, to ensure the feasibility of designs and to maintain the fidelity of final builds. 
  • Collaborate with other designers and creative leadership to evangelize new interface approaches and design patterns.
  • Support internal design reviews and offer feedback to continuously improve our work.
  • Will be responsible for various digital production design deliverables, various production tasks, and can execute on more complex deliverables with heavy guidance.
  • Will work within various external digital channels as well as support internal agency initiatives, and presentation materials.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Visual Design, User Interface Design, or an equivalent design degree.
  • A portfolio demonstrating range across multiple digital properties, from high-level-concepts to the technically developed tactics in execution. 
  • 1+ year of digital design, UX, UI, and digital production design (Preferably with some agency, contract/freelance or in a similar client services like environment.).
  • Proficient knowledge in tools such as Sketch/Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, InVision, and/or other rapid prototyping platforms.
  • An understanding of style-guides, typography, grid-systems, color, illustration, photographic composition, branding and identity-systems.
  • Has a working understanding of content management systems (Adobe Experience Manager or similar CMS like platforms.) and accessibility requirements when designing digital user experiences.
  • Is comfortable in presenting creative, approach & rationale to key stakeholders and working with diverse sets of feedback to better inform design decisions.
  • Can stay on top of the details across multiple project tasks when assigned.
  • Strong illustration, strong grasp of motion design, and animation are a massive plus.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $80,000.00. Your salary will be determined using an array of factors including your experience, skills, and other relevant factors.

We also provide insurance benefits including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. If hired, you will be eligible to enroll in our 401k plan and Toolhouse will match a portion of your contributions. We offer all new employees 3 weeks of paid vacation annually, plus 11 paid holidays, and paid sick leave in accordance with Washington state law. We also provide a monetary wellness bonus and you may receive other bonuses, and as well may be eligible to participate in our annual profit sharing program.
